Jenny Jinya Comics start with a skeleton in a black hood, and you expect something scary. You get the opposite.

In these strips, Death is soft-spoken and kind. He pets rabbit souls. He lets a lost puppy climb into his lap. He sits in the snow with a dog nobody else came out to see.

Artist Jenny Jinya, the creator of the Loving Reaper webcomic, draws in quiet grays with glowing blue souls. That simple look makes every small moment hit harder.

Below are 18 strips split into four stories: an extinct parakeet who wants to see its colors again, a gentle Death surrounded by animal souls, a dog still waiting for his friend, and Zeus, a chained dog left outside in winter. Keep tissues close.

A ghostly parakeet has been dead so long it can no longer remember its own feathers. It begs Death to show it its colors one more time. Death is not sure it is a good idea, but he gives in and carries the bird into a building, while the bird insists it always lived in the wild. Inside a museum, it finds a stuffed parakeet under a sign that reads “Extinct: Carolina Parakeet.” When it asks if that means gone forever, Death gently says yes.

Then Death notices someone new: a lost human. He invites them to sit with all the glowing animals for a moment, offers a rabbit soul to pet for good luck, and asks if there is anyone they would like him to say hello to.

Zeus is chained to his doghouse in the middle of winter, and Death sits down beside him in the snow. Zeus is sure his family will let him in any minute, even after days outside, while they sip wine behind a warm window. Only Kathy, the little girl of the house, runs out with a floral blanket and a hug before she is called back inside. As the cold gets worse, Zeus stays loyal to the very end, still saying how much he loves his family. The final page is the artist’s own reminder to keep dogs warm and indoors in winter.
