Shiki’s Cozy Comics is a series of lighthearted, relatable comics that capture the funny side of everyday life. Inspired by real events from the author’s own experiences these comics often fall within the slice-of-life genre. The characters in the comic are also drawn from real-life people. As the artist shared Most of my characters are based on friends, family, and my partner. One character Miss High-Horse represents a persona I created as a judgmental arrogant and condescending figure. We’re excited to showcase a selection of these charming comics that the creator has generously shared with us.

We asked Shiki about the biggest challenges she faces as an artist today, and she opened up about the emotional aspect of her work. I can’t speak for everyone, but for me, the toughest part is managing my mental health. Creating personal comics about childhood traumas or grief and sharing them with the world is difficult it’s a painful process. But I’m grateful to have a supportive and kind community. I’m also learning how to better cope with the occasional hurtful comments I receive on some of my Stories.

When asked about the most rewarding aspect of creating and sharing her comic series, Shiki replied. The most rewarding part is definitely how my readers connect with my work. When I receive comments or messages from people saying that one of my stories resonated with them or helped them during tough times, I feel overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude. It makes the emotional work of revisiting challenging moments in my life truly worthwhile.

We also asked Shiki which of her comics holds the most meaning for her, and she told us. The Pastry Chef’ is definitely one of my favorites. It’s special because it’s based on a real, precious memory. It was also one of the first deeply personal comics I released and after seeing how people connected with it I knew I wanted to create more heartfelt stories like that.
